Came across this interesting piece of marble (is it marble?) in Shanghai. I remember it being a shop near the Yu Gardens, with the famous Tea House.
The shop owner didn’t speak English so I couldn’t find out what the purpose of this thing was. It’s not too big, you can hold it in one hand, but it’s heavy none the less. A stamp, a paper weight, someone’s home creativity? It didn’t really matter, I was intrigued and loved it.
Unfortunately it broke into two pieces a couple of years ago. It had already been sawed into (why??!) when I bought it and a drop on the table one day didn’t manage to keep it together.. Anyone any idea what this object might be?
